Here we go again...

Well, Mom always said that if you're going to do something, you'd better do it right!! Parker must live by this mantra as he has broken yet another bone! I sometimes worry about this fragile little man, this happened while riding his bike. Another boy - a bigger boy - collided with Parker head-on, smashing his little hand between the bigger bike and Parker's little bike. I can't get angry and point the finger of blame, it was just an accident after all, but sometimes I get frusterated with the bigger kids who don't watch out for the smaller ones. =( So once again we were off to the ER to take care of my broken little boy =(

This picture was taken yesterday after sitting in a hard splint for 4 days...sooo swollen and bruised =(

OK, so maybe I should've warned you that it was an ugly break!! It was broken AND displaced! After going through all the trauma of having needles poked in it to numb it in the ER to set it, he had to have it RE-SET at the Ortho's office yesterday - with NO anesthetic!!! He is such a big brave man! My heart was breaking for him! The Dr. measured about a 12% angulation still left after setting it, but said as he grows it will straighten.....you'd think with all the modern technology available today, we wouldn't have to be left with crooked fingers!!! =)
So after all was said and done, he got to have a cool looking cast - he chose black for some odd reason. He was a champ through it all and we took some metallic markers to school today so all his friends could sign it for him!
P.S. Just so noone thinks I'm a bad mom, he is being referred to a specialist to make sure that he doesn't have a condition that is causing his bones to break more easily than most peoples....believe me, I've worried about it myself!

Lest We Forget...

As we go through our day, bar-b-queing, spending time with friends and family, may we take a few moments to remember the reason we are enjoying this beautiful day off of work and school. May we take a few moments to give thanks to those brave men and women who have laid down thier lives so that freedom may prevail. Without their sacrifices we would not be the truly remarkable country that we are today. In the words of our former Commander in Chief "May God continue to Bless America!!!" Memorial Day Poem
By: Kelly Strong
I watched the flag pass by one day,
It fluttered in the breeze.
A young Marine saluted it,
and then he stood at ease.
I looked at him in uniform,
so young, so tall, so proud,
With square cut hair and eyes alert
He'd stand out in any crowd.
I thought how many men like him
had fallen through the years?
How many died on foreign soil,
How many mothers' tears?
How many pilots planes shot down?
How many died at sea?
How many foxholes were soldiers' graves?
No, freedom isn't free.
I heard the sound of Taps one night,
when everything was still.
I listened to the buggler play
and felt a sudden chill.
I wondered just how many times
that Taps had meant "Amen".
When a flag had draped a coffin
of a brother or a friend.
I thought of all the children,
of the mothers and the wives,
Of fathers, sons, and husbands
with interrupted lives.
I thought about a graveyard,
at the bottom of the sea.
Of unmarked graves in Arlington,
No, freedom isn't free!

Aloha!

Last weekend we were invited to attend a Luau thrown to celebrate the first birthday of our friend's daughter. It was quite the extravagent affair for a 1 year old, but it was a lot of fun!!!

Hailey is looking really excited to be here...she actually had a blast.

Hailey with the birthday girl, Madison
See, I told you she had fun....she was in LOVE with the horses. This one's name is "Java", which apparently sounded like "Jaba" because started asking where Princess Leah was!! hahahahah...I love that girl, she's priceless!
She's taking in all the sights...I seem to remember pictures like these of me and my cousins at the horse stables in St. George when I was a little girl. Of course I wasn't in a swimmer and I wasn't nearly as cute!!
My city kids at the horse corrals....what a great day they had!!!
Parker was trying really hard to convince me that the pool was warm enough to go for a dip...I wasn't buying it!! It was a gorgeous day, but still a little cool in the water =(
Not that Hailey minded one bit! She was a soggy girl by the end of it all!

And of course, what Luau would be complete without a roasted pig! I know that for most of you this picture has no significance, but this guy has been the "Pig Farmer" of Vegas since the beginning of time and he and his crew roasted a real pig for this shindig! I couldn't pass up the chance for a picture of "The Pig Man" with a "Pig" (not my favorite slang for cops, but it exsists and I saw the irony =])

One Less Hero...

Yesterday, Las Vegas lost one of it's finest....Metro Officer James Manor was killed in the line of duty while responding to a call when he was in a tragic car accident. Even though we didn't personally know Officer Manor, Metro is a family, and when you lose a family member, no matter how close, it leaves an empty place in your heart. It makes you remember how precious life is and that you should never take for granted that your loved ones will always return home at the end of the day.
So today I made sure to hug my family a little closer, speak a little softer, and tell them that I loved them a few extra times. There's a country song by Diamond Rio called "One More Day" and it seems so appropriate right now. "I'd hold you every second, say a million I love you's, that's what I'd do with one more day with you."
Please tell your families how much you love them before you/they walk out the door. You may not get another chance....I love you all!

Go Divas!!!

Last weekend we had the priviledge (I use that term loosely here) of spending 3 straight days sitting on hard metal bleachers to watch Courtney's 10 year old Fast Pitch Softball team take part in a tournament. Let me tell you, you haven't lived until you've spent 9 straight hours at a Softball field with a 4 year old, a 6 year old and a 16 year old!
Although it was more pain and agony than excitement for me, I'm so very glad we stuck it out and watched our girls take second place in the tournament! Way to go Divas!!!
They played their little hearts out and ran like there was no tomorrow! Courtney even had a few fantastics hits herself! They made it all the way to the Championship game (after 9 wins and only 1 loss), and were finally overcome by the fatigue of it all. I must say how proud I was of them for not getting shut out by a Club Ball Team - you know, those teams made of up parent's living vicariously through their children. (Shame on me, that wasn't really nice. It was true, but not necessarily nice!)
So here are some shots I got of the whole experience...it was a CRAZY few days for

The Motely Crew after 3 days....thank goodness you don't have "smell-o-vision"!!
